June 18th – (MR) An evenings birding at the Mere was put off, after a txt off Tim about a male Red backed Shrike he’d just found near Grimston churchyard was well worth the detour, pics below of Shrike by Ade Johnson.
June 19th – (MR) Late afternoon down Mere produced 2 Black necked Grebe 1st/2nd field, 3 RCP’s (Drk + 2 Fem’s) and 42 Little Gull flew out east between 16:00-17:05 (groups of 22,6,7,7)
Some bits n bobs of stuff been seen round Mere this past few weeks, shoe horned in between Courser twitches, singing Corncrake, and a pornstar Roller.
May 21st – (MR,TM) 5 Arctic Tern, 4 Little Gull, Dunlin, Common Sand, Drk + fem RCP, 3 Goldeneye and a Barwit north.
May 22nd – (MR,LI,TM) 2 Hobby, 3+ Cuckoo and the Gypo goose
May 24th – (MR,LI) 2 Garden wrbs, 3+Cuckoo, Spotted Flycatcher 1
May 31st (LI,MR) 1 Drk Garganey, 2 Drk Mandarins, 3 RCP’s (Drk + 2 Fems), and a late dash to Aldbrough after Tim’s refinding of the Spurn Roller.
June 3rd – (MR,TM) LRP, 1 Sandwich Tern, 1 Common Tern, 2 Cuckoo
June 4th – Not seen by any of us but a belting sighting of a Roller over Hornsea birder D.Middleton’s garden.
June 11th – (MR) 17 Little Gull, 27 earlier (‘Gordon’ Bennett), 2 RCP’s, 2 Black Swan, many 000’s Swift, Egyptian Goose Bewholme, highlight tho was the Red necked Phalarope picked up off Swan Island spit from 2nd field at 20:20, tho distant the bird was present till dusk.
