At around 15:15 Lesley Ball picked up a ‘white-rumped’ Swift sp. feeding/roaming over 1st Field/1st Field reedbed in poor light/weather conditions, from her front window. Lesley spread the news via WhatsApp and shortly after several birders arrived at 1st Field. The bird was identified as a Pacific Swift initially, until later in the afternoon when it was re-identified from better views and pic’s as a White-rumped Swift. A first for Britain!

Some 150 people managed to get to the Mere, before the bird was last seen distantly at the west end of the Mere around 18:10.
