The highlight without doubt, and a first for the Mere, was of a Stone Curlew pushed off a set-a-side strip up by Ouzel hedge by a Common Gull at 09:33 found by JC. The bird then promptly disappeared and was not seen again until around 11:00 when it was picked up again (GB,MR,JC) around the same strip briefly on the dance floor, and from then on in flight over the Ouzel hedge area for several minutes before again vanishing probably to the southwest. Despite a search the bird could not be found, until MR and GB refound the bird on a partially tilled crop field just past the entrance to the Woodland walk around 12:45. The bird was only on view briefly before disappearing in some low vegetation. It was then last seen flying south from the field around 14:25 and not seen again.
