Trickle of passerines going over Kirkholme included small numbers of siskin, redpoll, mipits, skylark, grey wag and redwing. Seven Whooper Swans on the water with at least 12 Goldeneye. Single Ringed Plover and Dunlin on the Point end, plus 2 Little Egret nearby.

3 Scaup showing well off Kirkholme, 2 Marsh Harrier, 1 Kingfisher, 4 Dunlin and best of all, a GLOSSY IBIS which ‘appeared’ on Tree Island at 16:oo hrs and stayed put ( with an accompanying Little Egret) until closing time.
According to Rare and Scarce Birds in Yorkshire ( Wilson and Slack), a bird was seen flying over the Mere on 15th May 1976 and there is an older record, listed simply as ‘Hornsea’ in October 1909.
