17th September 12.00-16.30

A blustery WSW hampered the chances of picking up any migrants so the birding was done in some of the more sheltered spots towards the west end of the Mere were the increasing flock/s of wildfowl congregated. Birds of note, 1 Black n grebe (off Cormorant trees), 340+ Wigeon, 17+ Pintail, 28 Shoveler, 45 Teal, 47 Gadwall, 52 Pochard, 13 GC grebe and 2 RCP’s. 5 Ruff still around, 2 Redshank and single Dunlin. At least 1 Hobby still present, 2 Marsh Harrier over and a Buzzard. No sign of the juv Med gull but an Ad Med Gull dropped on the Mere mid afternoon, and a Kingfisher (only a handful of sightings this year) on the wooden stakes off 1st field.
