7th September

A strong westerly made conditions difficult at the mere today and most of the wildfowl took shelter at the west end. However, the good wader passage continues with five Ruff, two Dunlin and a Wood sand along with three groups of goldies heading south ( nine, seven and thirteen ). A juvenile Med gull made a brief appearance on the mere before heading west and only one Little Egret today which spent most the time off little Texas. Two Hobbies still present feeding over the trees on the north side, they remained distant but probably the adult and juv that have been seen over the last couple of weeks. Undoubtedly the highlight of the day was a Turtle Dove that flew west over the mere and seemed to drop in near Martindown. First record of the year for TM & MR.
